Asus has launched its newest gaming smartphones the Asus ROG Phone 5 and 5 Pro. The company also showcased the Asus ROG Phone 5 Ultimate which is set to be a limited edition and feature 18GB RAM.

The new Asus ROG Phone 5 has been launched alongside the Asus Aeroactive Cooler 5 which is a new accessory and comes with a pair of airtriggers. The Asus ROG Phone 5 and 5 Pro have different variants and offer different storage and RAM options.

The Asus ROG Phone 5 comes in two variants with the base model featuring 8GB RAM and 128GB storage and another one with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage.

The ROG Phone 5 Pro is available in one variant with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage and will come with a Asus Aeroactive Cooler 5 in the box. The ROG Phone is available in two colours, White and Black.

Asus ROG Phone 5, 5 Pro: Specs and features

The Asus ROG Phone 5 features a 6.78-inch custom AMOLED display from Samsung with 144Hz refresh rate. It also has 300Hz touch-sampling rate with Gorilla Glass Victus on top of it and HDR 10+ technology.

Underneath, it comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC which has been boosted to 2.84GHz and it also uses LPDDR5 RAM along with UFS 3.1 storage. It has a performance manager that comes with five modes for different scenarios. Besides this each game can be custom tuned on Asus Armoury Crate app.

Internally the 6,000mAh battery has been split into two 3,000mAh units that lie on either sides of the PCB making cooling more efficient on the device. The 6,000mAh battery split also makes its battery have a longer life cycle and it supports a maximum of 65W fast charge. Though the adapter in the box is a 30W one.

Users can control how they want to charge their phone by choosing either the Fast or the Slow charging options. While fast charging ensures quick recharge but it depletes the longevity of the battery, while the slow charging option prevents that. There's also a bypass charging mode for charging which will allow gamers to plug in the smartphone and run it on direct power without charging the battery.

In audio, the smartphone features a 3.5mm port with dual-front firing speakers, Dirac and ESS technologies. For gaming the ROG Phone 5 also features the virtual buttons on the sides with all the previous and new gestures. It comes with Aura RGB Lighting on the back as well and it can be customized with ROG Vision pre-set scenarios and animations.

In terms of cameras, it has a triple-camera setup on the back with a 64MP primary sensor along with a 13MP ultrawide and a macro lens. On the front it has a 24MP camera for selfies.

The ROG Phone 5 Ultimate comes with an upgraded 18GB RAM LPDDR5 RAM with 6,400 Mbps clock speed and 3,200Mhz RAM clock and the back panel is black and white. But the rest of the specs are pretty much the same.

The Aeroactive Cooler 5 features a couple of fans and sits right on top of where the processor on the phone should be. There is no internal fan this time and that should help with dust and water ingress. There's also a Aero Case and a Lighting Armor Case available.

Price and availability

The Asus ROG Phone 5 has been priced at Rs x49,999 for the 8GB variant and Rs 57,999 for the 12GB variant. While the Asus ROG Phone 5 Pro has been priced at Rs 69,999 for the 16GB RAM variant. The Asus ROG Phone 5 Ultimate has been priced at Rs 79,999.
